Oh no! Are your attendees looking lost and bored during your event?
Do they seem uninterested with what’s going on around them?
Would they rather look at their smartphones than mingle with other guests?
This is a nightmare for event organisers. For us, we want our attendees to be engaged with the speakers, exhibitors, and other attendees. Make sure you’re not doing these mistakes that make your attendees lose interest in your event.
- Unappealing design
As they say, first impressions last. When your venue looks dull and drab, you’ll immediately lose some crucial points for engagement. Catch your attendees’ attention. Your booth should be appealing right from the start. Like a magnet, attendees will be attracted to your booth when you’ve prepared an interesting booth for your guests. There should be the right combination of design, content, and space to make it engaging.
- Lack of preparation
Your attendees can sense right away when you seem fazed and overwhelmed during the event. They’ll lose interest because they know that you didn’t prepare enough for this event. What are the tell-tale signs? Stressful registration process. Poor quality of your sound and lighting system. Inadequate number of seats. Bad floor plan. The list goes on.
- Lack of energy going around
Maybe it’s your speakers. They may sound monotonous as they give their talk. Or they don’t give your attendees an opportunity to participate in the discussion. Or maybe it’s the people inside your booth. Maybe they don’t seem genuinely concerned about your attendees or they lack the proper knowledge to answer the questions raised by your attendees.
- Generic agenda
Personalisation is the way to go in event management. Offering a generic agenda for all your attendees just won’t cut it anymore. Attendees come with their own set of characteristics and interests that define their agenda for attending your event. Make sure you give them the opportunity to choose the activities, talks, and meetings that they want to engage in to satisfy their personal agenda. Your event should respond to their unique needs and requirements to make it a satisfying experience.
- Uninteresting content
The event content that you offer to your attendees will seal the deal. If they find your content relevant and interesting, then you have engaged participants in your event. But when your attendees couldn’t relate to the content that you’re presenting, then you’ll lose their interest quickly. The reason why you’re losing their interest is that there’s no engagement. They can’t visualise what you’re saying. There’s no connection between you and your attendees. Find creative ways to present your content and how you can be able to involve our attendees along the way.
Wrapping It Up
Make sure you’re not doing these mistakes during your event. These are costly and will make you lose not just the interest of your attendees but also the expected revenue from the event. Always observe your attendees and adjust accordingly so that you can cater to their unique needs and demands.
